When I was a kid, life was less complicated and seemed to move at a much slower pace. For example, if I wanted to talk to a buddy, I had to go to his home or call him on the phone. I couldn’t text, tweet or email him.
If I wanted to watch a movie, I had to physically go to the movie theater to watch it. I couldn’t just wait for it to come out on video because no one owned a VCR and DVD players weren’t even invented yet. Heck, no one that I knew even owned a home computer until I was in high school! For that matter, we also didn’t even have the internet, so we couldn’t do as we do today and download a movie to our laptop to watch it whenever we want.
There was no cable TV, no ESPN, no 24 hour-a-day sports talk shows and no TV remote controls. When I wanted to change the TV channel, I had to get up from the couch, walk across the room to the TV and physically move the dial to the next channel.
I think I may have just proven that I’m OLD!
Today we live in what I like to call a “finger tip” society. Almost anything we want can be obtained with a quick move of our finger tips. We can contact multiple friends at exactly the same time by sending a text message. We don’t have to wait days or weeks for the mailman to deliver a letter; we just email each other. My sister lives in Jakarta, Indonesia and sometimes she emails or Skypes me about news stories she has read online from our local newspaper before the paper is even physically dropped on my doorstep.
Debt Collection in a finger tip society. In the asset recovery business, it is critical that you operate your business with current information. You don’t want to accidentally contact a debtor in the afternoon when the debtor actually called your office and made a payment that very morning. Real time information is vital to helping you, a collection agency owner, avoid costly regulatory violations. A collection software platform that communicates real time with your predictive dialer or broadcast messaging (IVR messaging) service is essential to keeping your business compliant. Fewer compliance issues directly add profit to your bottom line.
I certainly have very fond memories of my childhood. At the same time, I’m grateful for the remote control invention that lets me, in real time, change the cable channel while sitting in my comfortable recliner. Likewise, the good old days of debt collecting were great. But today we need to use predictive dialing and broadcast messaging with real time updates to keep our businesses moving forward without unfortunate and unintended regulatory violations. Remember the good old days, but there is no reason you need to operate with old technologies.
