I had a great time in Chicago last week. The ACA International Expo was everything I anticipated it would be and more. A few of the highlights for me were the opening ceremonies, awesome speakers, and catching up with my entourage—you know who you are!
Our outgoing president, Leslie Bender, was everywhere this year as she traveled across the country to attend and speak at meetings for regional and state ACA organizations. I saw her at every show I attended and it was bitter-sweet to see her pass on the torch at the opening ceremonies. Her successor, Rick Doane, is a very active member of ACA who wants to see the organization succeed. I’m fired up to see him in action this year.
This year’s convention also featured a series of awesome speakers including Mark Schiffman, VP Public Affairs at ACA, and Karl Rove, Senior Advisor and Deputy Chief of Staff during the George W. Bush administration.
I especially enjoyed the keynote speaker, Ken Schmidt. Former Director of Communication at Harley-Davidson, Schmidt took a brand connotative of thugs and lawbreakers and altered the public’s perception to a more positive Harley lifestyle. He encouraged ARM business owners to reshape their reputation likewise, by taking back control and telling their own story.
